Student Affairs Staff Spotlight: Chanda Chen (January 2022)
Each month, Student Affairs recognizes one of its outstanding staff members for their hard work, dedication, and passion for serving the UW Tacoma community.
Name: Chanda Chen
Unit: Vice Chancellor Suite/Student Planning & Administration
Hobby: I am lucky to have married my best friend, Tyler! Together we love traveling, cooking, mixology, gardening, kayaking/SUPing, listening to live music, spending time outdoors and renovating distressed properties! We also own and operate the Chico Bay Inn located in Erlands Point, WA, so I joyfully wear an “innkeeper’s hat” or “carpenter’s belt” when I’m not working with the amazing UWT Student Affairs team.
Favorite Place on UW Tacoma campus and Why: I love walking around the campus (in and out of buildings)! I find it so fascinating to see how these abandoned, century-old buildings were creatively restored and repurposed for education from the old brick warehouses from which they originated to a beautiful, modern, urban campus.
Nominated by: Sean Schmidt
Nomination:
Chanda's support of the division and leadership in the area of organizational development and SO many other areas has been incredibly valuable. She has touched so many parts of the division, it is hard to identify a program, website, and/or event to which she hasn't provided some sort of contribution. She is able to help guide efforts around division and unit goals, while also helping staff and leadership connect dots they might not have seen on their own. She also steps in to assist with cross-campus projects and opportunities because of her strong skill set around program development and experience in things like international and continuing education. She has a keen ability to take complex issues and make them accessible and her talent for synthesis is just as impressive. Most importantly, her passion for the the team, the division, and the work we all do to support students come through in almost everything she does!
Student Affairs Mission
