Student Affairs Staff Spotlight: Brittany Mai
Student Affairs recognizes its outstanding staff members for their hard work, dedication, and passion for serving the UW Tacoma community.
Name: Brittany Mai
Unit: Student Planning & Administration
Hobby: My hobby is hiking. I love hiking because it allows me to connect with nature and explore the great outdoors. It is also a great way to stay physically active, enjoy scenic views, and challenge myself mentally and physically. Two of my favorite hiking trails are the Skyline Loop Trail in Mount Rainier and Angel Landing Hiking in Zion National Park. The best part of Skyline Loop Trail hike is reaching the Panorama Point, which is the highest point on the trail and offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding area. Angel Landing hike rewards a breathtaking view of the Zion Canyon below if I could get through the most challenging of the last half-mile navigating steep switchbacks and climbing up chains to reach the summit.
Favorite Place on the Tacoma Campus and Why: The Prairie Line Trail is my favorite place on the University of Washington Tacoma campus. It is a beautiful urban walking trail that runs through the heart of downtown Tacoma and past the UW Tacoma campus. As I walk along the trail, I am surrounded by beautiful plants and trees, and I can hear birds singing in the trees. At the same time, I am walking through the heart of the city, surrounded by historic buildings, shops, and restaurants. When I get to the marina, the sea breeze is invigorating, and the sound of the sea is both soothing and energizing. The waterfront walkway is also a perfect place for me to clear my head, escape the stress of daily life, and simply enjoy the beauty of nature. Whether I am walking alone, with a friend, or simply sitting on a bench and watching birds, I always feel a sense of calm and serenity in this place. It is a great place to take a break, get some fresh air and exercise, or simply relax and unwind after a long day.
Nominated by: Student Planning & Administration Team
Nomination: Brittany is one of the strongest team players we have in the Division. She is always ready to step up and help with anything and everything. This includes budget/fiscal questions and tasks, but she also helps with many, MANY other things such as events, cleaning and organizing spaces, and taking on special projects. Brittany is often the first person to volunteer when an ask for volunteers goes out. In addition to being such a team player professionally, she also often brings lunch items or snacks in to share with Division staff which helps enhance our team building culture. Brittany is always in a "Go Huskies!" spirit which is inspiring to both students and her colleagues. She even donated Harley, our Division mascot several years ago....you can't get more Go Huskies than that! Brittany demonstrates all of our Division values, but one value that is observed often is student-centeredness. Brittany always makes sure that students in MAT find their way to the right office in the building even if she has to go out of her way to do that.
