Michelle Carey is Boeing’s executive on-site director for University of Washington (UW) at all campuses. In this role, she partners with Boeing leaders on company strategies aligned with UW, including research, education, recruitment, diversity, and giving. Michelle also serves on the UW College of Engineering Advisory Board, UW Tacoma Science, Engineering and Technology Advisory Board and UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business Advisory Board. During her Boeing career, Michelle has held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility, including 777 deputy Chief Project Engineer, acting chief engineer in BCA Structures and various other leadership roles. Michelle is a proud alumna of University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Aaron James Deer serves as executive vice president, chief strategy and innovation officer of Columbia Banking System and Umpqua Bank. Mr. Deer previously served as executive vice president, chief financial officer of Columbia Banking System and Columbia Bank, positions he held from when he joined the bank in 2020 until its merger with Umpqua in 2023. In his current role, Mr. Deer leads the company’s strategic planning and corporate development activities while championing technology and other initiatives that drive long-term growth and performance. Prior to joining Columbia, Mr. Deer served as managing director and senior research analyst at Piper Sandler, an investment bank. As an equity research analyst, Mr. Deer provided coverage of West Coast financial institutions as well as insight to venture capital, private equity and the evolving fintech sector. Mr. Deer’s three-decade career in the financial services industry includes a variety of frontline and back-office positions at regional and community banks as well as a stint on Capitol Hill, giving him further perspective on bank regulation and industry dynamics. Mr. Deer earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in economics from the University of North Dakota, and he earned his Master of Business Administration with an international business concentration and his Master of Arts in international affairs with a trade and investment policy concentration from The George Washington University. He previously served as a director and treasurer on the board of the GW Alumni Association and is currently on the advisory board for the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington, Tacoma.

Heather is an engineer educator with a broad background in energy efficiency and renewable energy analysis. She specializes in thermodynamic systems and heat transfer. Heather is experienced with big data analysis, national energy analysis, building simulation tools and computational fluids. She has a passion for DEI work in the engineering field.

Andrew Fry is an entrepreneur and Director of Industry Partnerships at the School of Engineering and Technology, University of Washington, Tacoma, where he has lectured for the last twenty four years. Former founder and CEO of Free Range Media and Lariat Software, he has a wide range of media communications, business and industry experience. In 2016 he created Adventures by Appointment and wrote and produced “The Last Escape”, the first escape room to be built in the South Puget Sound. He to has served on multiple boards, including Washington Technology Industry Association and the Cascadia Velocity Accelerator, including many non-profit and industry boards in the past including the Tacoma Musical Playhouse and a few Tacoma technology start-ups. He served on Congressman Adam Smith’s Tech Advisory Board. Andrew also served on the Washington State Governors Technology Advisory Council, and have spoken nationally and internationally on the evolution of the Web including two submissions to the 2nd and 4th World Wide Web Conferences in 1994 and 1996. He coauthored "How to Publish on the Internet" for Time Warner Publishing and maintains the blog “Living and Working in a Virtual World”. He has acted as Chair of the South Sound Technology Conference for the last 19 years and helped to launch Tacoma's "1 Million Cups" initiative through the Kauffman Foundation.

Raj Katti, Ph.D. joined the UW Tacoma faculty in 2014 as the interim leader of the then UWT "Institute of Technology" from 2015 to 2017. During that time, he helped guide the Institute’s transition from a program to the School of Engineering & Technology and was named dean of the new school. Dr. Katti did his undergraduate work at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (now Mumbai), India. He has an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Washington State University.

Daniel Lowney is the Deputy Department Head for the Unmanned and Theater Undersea Warfare (USW) Systems Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport, where he leads a multidisciplinary team focused on unmanned systems and Theater USW operations. With a career at NUWC since 2003, Daniel has held various roles, beginning as a software engineer performing verification and validation testing for multiple submarine systems and developing software test modules for VIRGINIA Class data processing systems. In 2006, Daniel worked as an Oracle Database Administrator, managing data systems utilized for training proficiency and requirements, qualifications, and certifications of aviation maintenance personnel. In 2008, he served as the Principal Systems Engineer for the Enterprise Systems Engineering Division, where he was responsible for coordinating and executing multiple technical management functions, including the facilitation of Systems Engineering Technical Reviews for the Division’s programs. In 2015, Daniel became the Branch Head for the USW Software Engineering Branch, where he was responsible for leading engineering and logistics support of Submarine Acoustic Warfare System (SAWS) software systems. In 2017, Daniel was the Deputy Division Head and Technical Project Manager within the USW Systems Engineering Division responsible for various acoustic sensor, combat control, SONAR, and submarine countermeasure systems. Three years later, Daniel became the Division Head of the USW Systems Engineering Division. Daniel is a native of Montana and a graduate of Montana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He also holds a Master of Science in Data Analytics from Colorado State University. During free time, Daniel coaches high school baseball at Crosspoint Christian School.

Rod Rasmussen is a retired cybersecurity executive who, while investing in and advising start-ups, is spending the bulk of his work time volunteering for cybersecurity related organizations. This includes chairing ICANN’s Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC), being a senior advisor to the Messaging Malware Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG), serving as a member of the leadership of the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) and participating in other industry organizations. Prior to retirement, Rasmussen co-founded the cybersecurity company IID and was the company's lead technology development executive prior to its acquisition in 2016. He has been widely recognized as a leading expert on the abuse of the domain name system by criminals. Rasmussen is also an active participant in and the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST). He is a regular participant in DNS-OARC meetings, the worldwide organization for major DNS operators, registries and interested parties. He is also a long-standing member of the Advisory Board for the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma. Rasmussen earned an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC-Berkeley and holds two bachelor's degrees, in Economics and Computer Science, from the University of Rochester. He has worked in both government (the Congressional Budget Office) and various computer communications and networking companies throughout his career.

Joe Tellez, Sr. Director at TRC, supports market strategies and business development activities centric to TRC’s Integrated Grid services. As a practitioner, Joe provides vision for both short-term and long-term strategies to improve utility performance through the effective use of utility technology. He brings over 30 years of industry experience serving in a number of senior leadship roles in organizations including UiPath, Tacoma Power, Utility Integration Solutions / Alstom Grid, and Sempra Energy Utilities. He obtained a B.S. in industrial and systems engineering and an M.S. in systems architecture & engineering from University of Southern California. Joe also completed the Graduate Program in Utility Management at Willamette University and served as the Executive in Residence at University of Colorado’s Global Energy Management Program.

Ka Yee holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2001) and has over 20 years of experience in designing algorithms for big data analysis, with expertise spanning computer science, biology, and statistics. Her work involves the development and application of machine learning, data mining, and pattern recognition techniques to identify patterns, build predictive models, and infer relationships from complex data. Ka Yee leads projects that integrate cloud computing technology for biomedical research and has a strong track record in multi-disciplinary team leadership, scientific publications, and managing large-scale research grants. Her technical skills include programming in various languages (R, C, Java, etc.), working with big data, machine learning, statistical analysis, and cloud computing. Additionally, she holds academic leadership roles, teaching and mentoring students, and serves as Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at the University of Washington Tacoma. As a co-founder of Biodepot LLC, Ka Yee aims to improve big data analysis performance and reduce costs while being dedicated to advancing STEM diversity and fostering collaborative research.
