This program provides students an opportunity to learn about the European business environment virtually and gain practical experience via a virtual applied project with a German company. The virtual European Summer School, hosted by the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in Germany, includes lectures and coursework taught by multiple international faculty and provides an introduction to European politics, economics, cultural traditions, and business norms. Students will also participate in a virtual applied project focused on digitalization. The European Summer School is open to international students from all over the world and provides an opportunity to learn in cross-cultural teams and to develop cross-cultural empathy and intelligence in a safe environment.

Eligibility
This program is designed for undergraduate students admitted to the Milgard School of Business. Students should have a general foundation of business knowledge but no specific content area or business school class is a prerequisite for participation in this program. The University of Applied Sciences at Bielefeld has designed the program in such a way that it can accommodate business school students from different disciplines at different stages in their undergraduate education (from freshmen to senior).
Students have the option of enrolling in the accompanying TBUS 469 independent study in the spring, taught by UW Tacoma professor, Marion Eberly, Ph.D.

TBUS 490:Special Topics: Business in Europe (4 credits)
This course examines business in Europe from the perspective of economics, politics and law as well as European logistics, supply chain management and mobile marketing. Syllabus (PDF)
Project Work at the Company Miele
The project work enables students to learn about digitalization at the company and provides insights into corporate culture at a German company. Students will be able to engage in professional dialogue with employees of a multinational company, gather practical experience from home and improve their teamwork and intercultural skills.
Students will need to submit a reflection paper to Dr. Marion Eberly after completion of the program to be eligible to receive UW credit.
Independent Study: TBUS 469 (1 credit)
TBUS 469 will provide instruction that will frame the virtual experience offered by Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. Preparation will include a theoretical and applied exploration of teamwork in a virtual and multicultural environment via readings, personality assessments and reflections.
