Are you an international student who wants to gain experience while completing your degree at UWT? Come work on campus!
Frequently Asked Questions
All on-campus positions are posted on the UWT Handshake website. Just log in with your UW NetID and look for on-campus jobs and apply. Most positions will require you to upload your resume and a cover letter.
Both of your resume and cover letter will need to be approved by the Career Development & Education. Just simply upload them on Handshake and the staff from Career Development & Education will provide you feedback or approve your documents.
Note that international students are not eligible for work-study positions (work-study is a U.S. government financial aid program only open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents).
On-Campus employment must be on the premise of the school that issued students' currently valid I-20. For example, UW Tacoma international students cannot work at UW Bothell or Seattle campus for their on-campus jobs.
A few on-campus entities such as retail shops or restaurants *may* be considered on-campus. Please contact an international student advisor if you have questions about whether or not your job is considered an on-campus job or not.
No prior authorization is needed from the International Student & Scholar Services to apply and accept an on-campus position.
Students may only work on-campus for up to 19.5 hours per week while classes are in session.
However, students may work up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
Congratulations! Now, you will need to apply for a Social Security Number if you don't have one already. A Social Security Number is needed to work in the U.S.! Check out our Social Security Number page for the steps to apply.
