Who can Register to Vote
To register to vote in the state of Washington, you must be:
- A citizen of the United States
- A resident of Washington state*
- At least 18 years old**
- Not disqualified from voting due to a court order
- Not currently serving a sentence of total confinement in prison under the jurisdiction of the department of corrections for a Washington felony conviction
- Not currently incarcerated for a federal or out-of-state felony conviction***
*University Students attending college in Washington State can register to vote in Washington using their residence hall or WA State residential address on their Voter Registration Form. Students who register to vote in WA should contact their homestate to remove themselves from their voter registration records and SHOULD NOT attempt to vote in two locations. **If you are 16 or 17, you can sign up as a Future Voter and be automatically registered to vote when you qualify
***Effective January 1st, 2022, if you were convicted of a felony in Washington State, another state, or in federal court, your right to vote will be restored automatically as long as you are not currently serving a sentence of total confinement in prison. Your must re-register to vote after your right to vote is restored. Find more information here
How to Register to Vote?
In Washington State, there are three (3) ways to register to vote:
1. Online - Visit votewa.gov to start your online voter registration. To complete your registration online, you will need a Washington State Driver's License or State ID. You can register online to vote in the November 5th election until October 28, 2024. You will receive a card mailed to your residential address to confirm your registration.
2. Mail-In- Visit sos.wa.gov/elections/voters to print out a paper form. You can drop by the Center for Student Involvement during our operational hours to print and complete a registration form. The form is available in multiple languages and the registration forms allows you to use your residential address to register to vote. Those registering to vote through mail-in form will need a Washington State Driver's License, WA State ID, or their Social Security Number to complete the form.
3. In-Person- You can walk right into your County Elections office and register in person. You are able to register until 8 p.m. on November 5, 2024 and cast your ballot as soon as you register! When locating a County Elections Office, make sure that you're visiting the Elections Office within the county of your residential address to register.
Important Dates to Remember
Friday October 18, 2024
Start of the 18-day voting period (through Election Day). Ballots are mailed out and Accessible Voting Units are available at voting centers
Monday, October 28, 2024
Online and mail registrations must be received 8 days before Election Day. If you do not post-mark your mail-in registration or submit your online registration before this date, you can still register to vote in the November 2024 Election in-person, during business hours, at any County Elections Office
