Welcome Days: How to Participate
Welcome Days offers students a variety of ways to meet new people, learn about UW Tacoma, and get immersed into UW Tacoma and Husky culture. To new Huskies, welcome to UW Tacoma! To returning Huskies, welcome back!
Are you looking to find new friends? Are you more interested in advancing your career preparation? There are many opportunities that will help you achieve your individual goals, allowing you to integrate into our community as you deem fit for yourself. Welcome Days is a roadmap to your success, but the path is yours to create for yourself.
Welcome Days activities are designed around 4 pillars. These categories communicate what a specific activity will provide to you and the experiences you can expect to gain. Many activities will meet the objectives of more than one (and even all 4) of these pillars.

Our purpose in planning this event is to host a semi-traditional dance party that is commonplace within the Latinx culture. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn certain dances such as salsa or bachata and will be able to meet and dance with individuals from similar or different cultures. Although this event will be presented in the context of Latinx Culture we would love the opportunity to welcome in and share a part of the Latinx culture with students at UWT. We would like this event to be as fun and engaging as possible for attendees and want to promote an event in which both individuals who identify with and those who are interested in the Latinx culture are able to have fun and learn something new about the Latinx Culture.

The purpose of this event is to show off the Middle Eastern South Asian culture with other students on campus. A college campus should reflect the diversity of the world and showcasing the beautiful culture within MESAA can help do that. This will allow students from different backgrounds to appreciate and understand different cultures, which will enable a more inclusive and tolerant environment. Many students have not had the opportunity to learn about Middle Eastern and South Asian Culture in their previous education. By showcasing the culture on campus, students can expand their knowledge and gain a better understanding of the rich culture. Showcasing Middle Eastern and South Asian culture can provide a sense of community and belonging for students. This event will create opportunities for students to connect and share their experiences, helping to build a stronger and more diverse campus.

The MLK Day Unity Breakfast was created in 2006-2007 with support from the Student Activities Board and the Chancellor’s Office. Due to the overwhelming success of the event as an icon for the community and for the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr., the event was established to occur annually. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the MLK Day Unity Breakfast was canceled in 2021. The Black Student Union, in collaboration with several on- and off campus offices, organizations, dignitaries, and sponsors intend to revitalize this event to the icon it once was.
The MLK Day Unity Breakfast is an annual event held on the morning of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and features a keynote speaker(s), an Alumni speaker(s), a singing of the Negro National Anthem (Lift Every Voice and Sing), presentation of the Dream Awards, a musical/cultural performance, and a well-rounded breakfast served throughout

The traditions continues so don't miss your chance to fill in the biggest W the UW Tacoma community can make!
Legend says that a group of huskies came together on the Court 17 Green years ago. Details are the reason why or what they may have been up go unremembered, but the fact that at the same time, someone just happened to be overhead to snap the exact moment when they formed a W created something powerful. It created a tradition
Every year, the University of Washington Tacoma community comes together to re-create this moment, to stand in a giant W in the color all Husky love: Purple. Where something and remember that the first 300 attendees will receive a FREE W Photo T-Shirt, sporting the wise and true words of "You Belong Here" at UW Tacoma. Don't miss the chance to be part of this tradition!
