3D Printing FAQ
How Do I Print?
In order to print, you must be registered and taking classes during the current quarter at UW-Tacoma. If you meet that criteria, fill out the 3D Printing Request Form
How Much Does It Cost?
Nothing! Each student is granted 100 grams per quarter thanks to STFC. This amount is renewed every quarter as long as you are a registered student for that quarter.
Can I Print More Than 100 Grams?
There are some cases where objects end up being more than 100 grams. You can combine grams with other students that you have gotten permission from. This can be useful if you are utilizing our service for a group project. You would need to provide the student’s name and their UW Email.
What Kind of Files Can I Print?
Please send us your .OBJ or .STL files.
How Big Can My Print Be?
The maximum dimensions our 3D printer can hold is up to 9.92 in x 7.83 in x 5.9 in.
Can I Add Money onto My Account to Print More Than 100 Grams?
No. This service is funded by the Student Technology Fee that is included in your tuition.
Do I Get to Work Directly with the 3D Printer?
Unfortunately, no. We serve as a medium where the students send us their object file, and we print it for you. If you would like to get some hands-on experience with a 3D Printer, check out the FabLab located on Jefferson Avenue! (Their services come at a cost)
