“Food insecurity among university students in the United States (US) can have a detrimental effect on academic achievement and long-term health outcomes. While access to education is a strategy used to address social determinants of health in many marginalized populations, the high cost of college can affect the ability to have stable, nutritious and affordable food source.”
– Dr. Christine Stevens, UW Tacoma Associate Professor
Food insecurity is the lack of access to affordable and nutritious food. The Pantry is available for all students to utilize. It is important for campuses to have food pantries in the efforts to help alleviate the stress and worry that students may be faced with due to food insecurities.
The Center for Equity & Inclusion, Center for Student Involvement, and the Student Activities Board are partnering together to host a campus-wide students vs. faculty/staff food and item drive for The Pantry! All registered student organizations, students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate!
Whether you represent a student organization, campus department, or are an individual member of our community - there is a way for you to join us and contribute to this important cause.
- Student Organizations: Collect items and compete against other clubs! The winning organization will receive an additional $100.00 maximum limit in RSO Operations Fund for the school year. Click here to learn more about the RSO competition guidelines.
- Students: Drop your items in any "Student" box located throughout campus.
- Faculty/Staff: Drop your items in any "Faculty/Staff" box located throughout campus. Consider getting your whole department involved and increase the number of faculty/staff collecting items!
