What is Advanced Standing?
Designed for eligible graduates of baccalaureate programs in social work or social welfare, Advanced Standing allows you to enter the advanced level of the MSW curriculum.
Am I eligible for Advanced Standing?
Effective starting Winter 2022, students applying for the advanced standing program must have graduated from a U.S. baccalaureate program in social work or social welfare accredited by the CSWE. A degree accredited by the CASWE (Canadian Association for Social Work Education) or other non-U.S. degree considered to be equivalent by the ISWDRES (International Social Work Degree Recognition and Evaluation Service) may be accepted in lieu of a U.S. degree. Although not required, we strongly recommend Advanced Standing applicants who graduated more than five years ago demonstrate continued professional growth through social work experience. Professional training, leadership, and advancement in the social work field are also considered.
Admission to the program is competitive as space is limited and many applicants will meet the minimum criteria. Selection is based on academic background and potential, professional goals matched with program goals and curriculum, social service experience, commitment to social justice and experience with diverse populations. Advanced Standing applicants submit the same application materials as the 3-year MSW Program applicants.
