Pre-Registration Process
One week before the first day of registration, students can log into Register.UW to complete the required pre-registration notices. We recommend that students complete these steps ahead of their assigned registration day.
- Acknowledge important notices, which includes information about voter registration, file-sharing/copyright infringement, campus security, UPASS, UW Financial Responsibility Agreement, and notification of rights under FERPA, and
- Insurance/optional charges, which includes questions about student health insurance and ASUWT. Students must complete the acknowledgements (#1) before they can see this set of questions.
Students may also update your address and consent to release of information, which includes directory release settings, consent to immunization record query, emergency contact fields, and UW Alert sign-up, parent/family-member contact fields.
Only when students are finished with these required steps will they be able to register for courses on their assigned date. Please note that these steps are required each quarter. Important messages and notifications, including any registration holds and blocks, are displayed on Register.UW at the beginning of each quarter.

Registration Error Messages and Quick Tips
Quick Tips
- Registration opens at 6:00 am on your scheduled registration date during Registration Period 1, and 12:00 am during Registration Periods 2 and 3. Register early for the best selection of classes. You can adjust your schedule at any time through the first week of classes.
- Remember you must register for at least one class before the quarter begins or you will be subject to a $25 late registration fee.
- We recommend that you connect with your academic advisor before selecting your courses or use the degree auditing (DARS) system to make sure they are taking the right courses for their degree plan.
- Obtain entry codes or submit course enrollment requests from the appropriate program office for any courses requiring entry codes.
- Take care of all university financial obligations. The system will not permit you to register if there is a hold on your registration.
- Once you have registered, you can log in to MyUW as often as needed to check the status of sections, view their confirmed schedule, add or drop courses, or check their account balance.
Registration Error Messages
The Office of the University Registrar in Seattle has compiled a list of common registration errors along with an explanation and instructions to resolve the error.
