Discover Milgard's Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Council
Spearheaded by Dr. Shalini Sarin Jain, the DEI is devoted to fostering a welcoming campus community that recognizes and celebrates social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and where all our students, staff and faculty feel seen, heard, and supported.
We are more than proud to feature and present the Milgard department for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). The DEI is a relatively new entity to the Milgard School, spearheaded by Dr. Shalini Sarin Jain. The DEI is devoted to fostering a welcoming campus community that recognizes and celebrates social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and where all our students, staff and faculty feel seen, heard, and supported.
Established in January 2021, Milgard’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council is an advisory and recommending body to the Dean on inculcation of best practices, policies and promotion of knowledge and skills to ensure that all members of the Milgard community are treated with respect and dignity, have access and voice, and an opportunity to achieve their full potential. Chaired by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, the Council will consist of 12-15 individuals representing all constituent groups including undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community collaborators. The first cohort of Council members will serve a 1-2 year term, meeting monthly from September to June in the academic year.
Milgard is committed to enhancing diversity in our learning and work environments by admitting, recruiting, hiring, and retaining an expansive array of talented students, staff, and faculty. Our definition of diversity includes, but is not limited to race, ethnicity, color, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, class, religion, disability, neuro-diversity, age, military status, visa status, economic status, geographic location, and language/linguistic ability.
It Takes A Village - Rather than a person or a group, all of us have a role to play in advancing the important work of diversity, equity and inclusion. We invite all members of the Milgard community to collaborate with us in bringing about lasting change.
