Do you feel a need to take action toward sustainability on campus? There are many ways to get involved at UW Tacoma to contribute to the sustainability of our community and campus. Whether you are looking for opportunities to volunteer or want join a group to discuss such issues on campus, this section will give you some resources so you can take action and contribute toward a more sustainable future.
Registered Student Organizations (RSO)
RSOs are student lead groups that can meet up to discuss various subjects and categories. RSOs can be a powerful tool to lobby the University's leadership to make serious change.
Unfortunately, there are no current RSOs that specifically work on sustainability. If you would like to be a pioneer and establish one, you have full support of the campus and can follow the link below to start your own RSO.
If you wish to be part of an existing RSO, there are a few alternatives. First, you could join one of the groups listed below and be the voice for sustainability and environmental justice within the group.
- Associated Students of UW Tacoma (ASUWT)
- ACLU UWT Chapter
- Center for Equality and Inclusion
- DECA
- Center for Student Involvement
- Global Ambassadors Program
- Housing & Residence Life
- All RSOs
Second, if you still want to be part of a sustainability focused RSO, the Seattle campus has many groups to join. To see which UW Seattle RSOs focus on sustainability click here.
Take the UW Green Pledge
At the University of Washington, sustainability is in our nature. The UW is committed to being a positive force for the future of our environment, through education and research, as well as facility and resource management. However, being a sustainable campus also requires individual action from students, faculty, staff and others. Click on the button below to take the Green Pledge. This is a small step will help us analyze how many people are interested in becoming part of the sustainability progress on campus.
Capstone/Project support for Students
UW Tacoma is adopting a "living laboratory" model, where we try to support students that want to make changes or introduce new practices and polices onto the campus.
If you are a student and have a Capstone project or idea that deals in environmental or social sustainability, please contact us at Facility@uw.edu for support and resources.
Sustainability Committee and Volunteering
Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability
This committee is comprised of UW Tacoma faculty, staff and students. Although you must apply to become a member on the committee, any student, faculty or staff member can attend meetings and have their say heard. The Sustainability Committee is another great opportunity to get involved. It regularly holds events and other group activities that benefit our community and campus.
To receive an invite to the meetings please contact the Sustainability Committee at uwtsustain@uw.edu.
Volunteering Opportunities
The Giving Garden
The Giving Garden always needs a helping hand and often has working parties to help grow and feed our community. Help join a sustainable system that actively fights hunger in an urban serving campus. Food insecurity doesn't need to be a challenge when we work together!
