Tacoma Whole Child Initiative
Tacoma Whole Child transforms schools by creating safe, positive, engaging, and equitable learning environments through a mutually-beneficial partnership between UW Tacoma and Tacoma Public Schools. This engaged work with district leaders, school teams, and educators draws from research-based frameworks such as social emotional learning (SEL) and positive behavior supports (PBIS) to fit each school community’s unique cultural and contextual needs. This collaborative facilitates the uptake of cohesive SEL implementation and effective discipline practices that are culturally affirming, trauma-informed, and foster the skills necessary to thrive in today’s global society.
