The University of Washington Tacoma has partnered with Kennedy & Company (K&Co) to implement Slate for Student Success. Slate is a CRM currently used in undergraduate Admissions and will be extended to currently enrolled students to support success functions which include academic advising, appointment scheduling, case management notes, forms and workflows, document management, coordinated communications and outreach, and reporting.
Goals
- Successfully implement Slate to manage student success operations for UW Tacoma students
- Increase student engagement and sense of belonging through seamless services and process
- Promote cross unit collaboration through better coordinated internal communication and hand offs
- Focus on improving the student experience
- Optimize student support operations to be more proactive than reactive

Project Timeline
The Slate Student Success Implementation Project with K&Co kicked off on July 15, 2024. We anticipate to work with K&Co. for the first seven months of the implementation. Click the button below to see details of the project task list.
July - August 2024
Kick-Off and Discovery
During the kick off and discovery period, K&Co. and UW Tacoma met the key individuals in student support offices, IT, and other departments as needed, and discussed existing business processes, current technology stack, and goals for the expanded Slate instance.
August - September 2024
Optimization of Business Process
K&Co. refined existing business processes to ensure UW Tacoma is set up to fully leverage Slate for Student Success. We planned around the data flow, as well as operational processes to be built into the CRM.
September - November 2024
Technical Building - Process Automation
The bulk of the technical build, and much of our time spent on the project, will be focused on building functionality and processes in the new Slate instance.
November 2024 - January 2025
Technical Build – Integration
K&Co. will assist in completing a data mapping workbook as well as scheduled delivery of required data files to the Slate SFTP or a client-defined endpoint.
January - February 2025
Training and Support
K&Co.’s end-user training and ongoing support will be scheduled in the month leading up to go-live. Knowledge transfer and documentation will be happening all throughout the project.
