Milgard Women’s Initiative: Empowered Women, Empowering Women
The Milgard Women’s Initiative (MWI) is housed within the Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility (CLSR) at the Milgard School of Business. The council has several committees, which are led by members of the MWI Advisory Council. Within this Council, a number of committees develop and implement programs to “advance women as creative and innovative leaders throughout their organizations and communities.”
The MWI Mentoring Committee focuses on leadership development for Milgard graduate students. The MWI Program Development Committee created the Inspired Speaker Series to introduce UW Tacoma students to women leaders in the South Sound across a wide variety of careers and backgrounds, and is hosting a one-day, in person, interactive Negotiation Workshop in October.
The MWI Council is also busy working on new initiatives. For example, a high school leadership program in the summer, a Profiles in Leadership series highlighting South Sound women who lead, and additional workshops. The Mentoring Committee is looking to expand their resource library and possibly expand the mentoring program to undergraduate students at the Milgard School of Business.
MWI is always looking to partner with community members in the South Sound. If you are interested in supporting us, please consider some of the following options:
- Follow the CLSR on LinkedIn or Facebook, and help us spread the word about our events
- Share with us what resources MWI could offer that would benefit you or your organization
- Volunteer on the Milgard Women's Initiative (MWI) Mentoring or Program Development Committee*
- Sign up to be a MWI mentor for the upcoming academic year*
- Register for the Negotiations Workshop on October 2
- Financially support MWI initiatives
* academic year commitment
We hope you will attend our events, and browse resources on our website. If you are interested in volunteering, or have ideas how the MWI can support you or your organization, we would love to hear from you. You can reach us at clsr@uw.edu.
