Take your first steps in becoming a UW Tacoma Husky

Choosing a college can be stressful, yet exciting, so be sure to allow yourself adequate time to research and evaluate your options. We hope that UW Tacoma will be your destination for a rewarding college experience.

Step 1: Set up your UW NetID and email

Set up your Net ID: If you haven't already done so, create your UW NetID. Your NetID is required to access all university systems and is needed to to register for orientation and enroll in classes. 

Configure your UW Email: After creating your UW NetID, you'll be prompted to create a UW email inbox via the MYUW portal. All email communications from UW Tacoma will be sent only to UW email address, so it's important to check it regularly.

Step 2: Confirm your Enrollment

You confirm your intent to enroll at UW Tacoma by paying the Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD). Doing so reserves your place at UW Tacoma and allows to you register for orientation and classes. You can defer this fee to your first tuition bill, where it may be covered by financial aid or Post 9/11 benefits.

Step 3: Connect with your advisor and register for classes

Freshmen & Running Start students must attend New Student Advising & Registration (NSAR) Days in June/July to meet with your academic advisor and register for classes. 

Transfer students are encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor.

Step 4: Submit a final transcript

Freshmen: You must request a final high school transcript from your high school before high school graduation (and before school closes for the summer). Your transcript must include your final quarter grades and confirmation of your graduation.

Running Start: In addition to your high school transcripts, you must also submit official transcripts from your college. 

Transfer students: You must submit updated transcripts for all college coursework at least two weeks prior to the start of classes.

Step 5: Participate in Orientation

All new students are required to:

 

1. Complete the online orientation. 

2. Attend in-person orientation.

ADDITIONAL STEPS YOU MAY NEED TO TAKE

 

  • Apply for Financial Aid

    If you haven’t done so already, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid. It is in your best interest to do so as early as possible. Be sure to send your paperwork to University of Washington using the code 003798.

     

  • Apply for Housing

    Come live with us at Court 17! Apply for on-campus housing by May 31. Applications for newly admitted students open April 1. 

     

  • International Students

    Once you have confirmed your admission to UW Tacoma, please reach out to the International Student & Scholars Office (ISSS). ISSS advisors will share information about how you can request your I-20. Learn more about requesting your I-20 here.

     

  • No longer planning to attend? Decline your offer  

    If your plans have changed and you will no longer be attending UW Tacoma, please inform us at your earliest convenience.  You can complete the Decline Offer form here. You must sign in to your applicant status portal to complete the form.
