Spring Leadership Workshops for Professional Development
UW Tacoma's Professional Development Center will present a series of workshops focused on leadership challenges and solutions starting this March.
Leadership and management training has never been more accessible – in providers, modalities, and topics. With all these options, though, it can be difficult to determine which ones meet your specific needs.
We have put together a brief guide to our upcoming Spring Leadership Workshops to help you find the right workshop(s) for your needs:
Considering changing careers or arguing for an internal promotion
As our Executive Director Christopher Cellars recently wrote, the decision to leave a job is worth some significant – and structured – consideration. This is true whether you are leaving your current organization or seeking promotions.
Thinking Strategically About Your Career (March 16) is a short, online workshop to jumpstart this process. You will identify a vision, mission, and values for your career, learn ways to decide when it is time to make a change, and determine what additional skills you might want to cultivate to make it happen.
Building your core toolkit
Whether you’re making a change or want to perform your current role more effectively, workshops are a time- and cost-effective way to fill out your toolkit. This Spring, we’ll be offering workshops on several core skills valuable for every professional:
-
Facilitating Effective Meetings (April 27)
-
Resolving Workplace Conflict (March 30 & April 6)
-
The Trust Advantage (April 20)
-
Designing and Leading Change (May 18 & 25)
Managers and team members who participate in interview processes and onboarding should also consider Effective Hiring Practices: Getting the Right People on the Bus (April 6). Taught by Milgard School of Business Executive in Residence Richard Wilkinson, this workshop provides a holistic and practical look at a process many employees are pulled into without any training or experience.
Addressing COVID-heightened issues
Issues with trust, turnover and organizational culture are not unique to the COVID era. It is also true that the stressful conditions of the last two years have heightened such issues significantly or driven them out of the shadows. Every organization should consider taking time to assess their current processes and practices, whether they are in alignment, and how to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.
-
Unpacking Failed DEI Efforts (April 27)
-
The OD Toolkit: Aligning the Organization for Results (May 11)
-
Designing and Leading Change (May 18 & 25)
Additionally, many of the same skills individual employees can use to fill out their individual toolkits can serve a dual purpose, addressing COVID-era issues like:
-
Declining trust within teams or the organization as a whole
-
Managing increased conflict on teams and with clients
-
Rethinking your recruitment and onboarding processes to reduce turnover
