Food Equity & Basic Needs Task Force
In Fall 2023, after numerous concerns raised from UW Tacoma students regarding their unmet basic needs impacting their academics, ASUWT established the Food Equity & Basic Needs Task Force to investigate and address these issues.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, this inaugural task force significantly shifted the culture of basic needs support on campus through its research and advocacy, resulting in the launch of several campus-supported initiatives to benefit students. However, there still remains much work to be done to holistically support students.
With the adoption of the 2024 ASUWT Constitution, Task Forces have now been formally integrated into ASUWT's advocacy efforts, ensuring that all initiatives are sustainable and guided by multi-year strategic plans with clear deliverables.
