About First-Year Writing
First-Year Writing (FYW) courses at UW Tacoma introduce students to college-level writing. Students choose one of two options: TCORE 101, a one-quarter course, or TWRT 120 & 121, a two-quarter sequence. While each section may have a different theme and set of readings, all FYW courses are designed to meet the First-Year Writing learning goals. To learn more about FYW readings and assignments, please see a sample curriculum.
Students select a FYW course after taking the required Writing Selection survey (previously called the Directed Self-Placement).
