Harris selected for AASCU’S 2022 Academy for New Provosts
Executive Vice Chancellor Andrew Harris will participate in third cohort of national leadership development program.
The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) has named Andrew Harris, Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UW Tacoma, as one of 30 exceptional higher education leaders to its 2022 Academy for New Provosts (ANP).
The ANP is a leadership development program geared toward the distinctive needs of chief academic officers who lead state colleges and universities. Now in its third year, ANP is an opportunity for newly appointed leaders to connect with their state university peers in an environment tailored to the specific challenges that a first-time provost is likely to face.
“I am grateful for the privilege of participating in this program on behalf of UW Tacoma," said Harris. "The challenges facing public higher education are many, and so are our opportunities to transform people, sustain vibrant communities, and add to the scholarship of our fields of study. Participating in ANP will help me bring my best energy to this university’s future.”
The 2022 Academy for New Provosts will include monthly virtual learning and networking sessions and an in-person gathering on in Washington, D.C. ANP is made possible in part by generous support from AASCU strategic partner Ad Astra.
"I am proud to welcome the third class of outstanding leaders to ANP," said Terry Brown, vice president for academic innovation and transformation at AASCU. "As these newly appointed provosts and chief academic officers begin navigating the challenges and complexities of their roles, AASCU is committed to providing the specialized expertise, guidance, and support they need to succeed."
ANP will prepare the 30 new provosts participating in this year’s program to manage university finances and budget; understand the principles of exemplary academic leadership and change management; build trust through effective communication; manage key relationships for success; use data effectively to create a culture of evidence and inform decisions; integrate academic planning with budget, facility, and IT planning; navigate between the president’s vision and faculty expectations; and strengthen psychological and physical resilience.
The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) is a Washington, D.C.-based higher education association of nearly 400 public colleges, universities, and systems whose members share a learning- and teaching-centered culture, a historic commitment to underserved student populations, and a dedication to research and creativity that advances their regions’ economic progress and cultural development.
