Increase Your Understanding & Extend Your Impact
UW Tacoma's mission states that the University exists to "educate diverse learners and transform communities by expanding the boundaries of knowledge and discovery." Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are inexorably linked to the success of the South Sound and Washington State.
As the Professional Development Center, we are guided by a belief that everyone is better able to increase their diversity competencies when they have the opportunity to develop this knowledge and skillset within the context of their professional roles. Though many organizations have internal resources and training to help in this process, PDC’s role is to bring a diverse group of people together in new ways to share their experiences and learn new tools together.
Our contracted training workshops and webinars prepare you and your team to analyze, diagnose, and address diversity and inclusion issues. As participants, you’ll begin to gain the skills and insights needed to support a strategic, sustainable approach to diversity and inclusion leadership within your organization.
As we continue to develop additional programming for the future, here are some additional resources available in the community:
City of Tacoma Office of Equity and Human Rights
Rainbow Center
University of Washington Race & Equity Initiative
UW Tacoma Office of Equity and Inclusion

This highly interactive workshop is a deep dive into how to apply a racial equity lens to Project Management decision-making processes.
If you've been wondering whether an equity team is right for your organization, this conversation is for you. This one-hour webinar will share a brief overview of how to build a foundation for a successful equity team launch, including the creation of an action plan.
This 3.5-hr workshop centers how to approach intercultural interactions of all kinds with cultural humility, an approach unique from "cultural competencies." Participates will explore ways to build their own cultural humility and integrate it into an everyday practice.
In this six-hour workshop, participants will explore best practices for interpreting and using data to create more equity and inclusiveness in their organization. While many of these best practices are valid regardless of their application, this workshop will look at them through an equity lens and with an emphasis on their application within DEI efforts. Participants will discover the many benefits of this approach, such as when measuring DEI implementations and their success.
This 6-hour workshop provides an overview of the core principles and necessary strategies organizations need to ensure an equitable community engagement process. Participants will unpack engagement methods built on white supremacy culture and explore more meaningful, sustainable and equitable strategies.
In this 90-minute workshop, participants will take an honest look at DEI efforts that are falling short. They will unpack DEI methods build on quick fixes, explore more meaningful and sustainable strategies, and identify ways to pivot in response to failed DEI efforts.
This workshop provides an overview of the history and present state of those dynamics and provides for discussion of tools and practices that can advance the cause of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in-and through the work of-nonprofit organizations.
This workshop provides advanced strategies for undoing institutional racism in the nonprofit sector while building a community of practitioners dedicated to this goal.
