Journalism study program in Russia open to students

Two UW Tacoma students will have a chance to study journalism at Russia's Moscow State University as part of an intensive one-week travel opportunity in September.
Applications for the highly competitive study abroad program, offered through the UW Tacoma Office of International Programs, are due July 9. Any UW Tacoma student with an interest in journalism is welcome to apply.
The 5-credit study in Russia program is led by Assistant Professor Chris Demaske, who teaches journalism and communication courses in UW Tacoma's Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences program. UW Tacoma students will team up with Moscow State students to write, design and produce a newspaper. Students will learn about differences in journalistic practices, news values and cultures in the U.S. and Russia.
Applicants should be prepared to submit a letter of intent and writing samples or photos. Successful candidates will have experience writing, editing or producing newspaper copy and working under deadline pressure.
