Welcome Message From Dean Rachel Endo
Welcome to the School of Education at the University of Washington Tacoma!
Established in 1992, the Education Program has evolved into a dynamic professional and scholarly community that is now at the forefront of transforming twenty-first-century organizations and schools. We attained full-fledge University of Washington school status in 2016 (just a year prior to my hire due to the drive and will of an exceptional faculty), which positioned our new School of Education to continue an upward trajectory as a national leader in educational equity, excellence, and innovation.
The School of Education’s mission is: “to prepare ethical and reflective educators and leaders who transform learning, contribute to the community, exemplify professionalism, and promote diversity.” Our outstanding faculty and staff are deeply committed to preparing and supporting highly effective and socially responsible leaders and practitioners who believe in the success of all learners. Our alumni have found their calling in various educational contexts and settings as critically reflective leaders and practitioners. Our strong partnerships with local-area community organizations and school districts support UW Tacoma’s dynamic mission as an urban-serving university that is centrally committed to collaboratively tackling some of the most pressing issues in our schools and society.
I encourage you to explore our website and consider partnering with us in our ongoing mission to positively impact our surrounding communities and schools. We are especially committed to ensuring that all children and youth, particularly those who are most in need, are provided with culturally affirming, equitable, high-quality, and rigorous learning experiences that will enable them to excel in their lifelong pursuits.
Finally, I am proud of the work that faculty and staff, as well as our community partners, have done in the creation of the School of Education Equity Action Plan. An updated report on our progress and where we are headed is located here.
Due to their efforts and our ongoing commitment to anti-racism and equity, we are considered to be the exemplar and model of inclusive excellence for the rest of our campus.
I joined the School of Education as Founding Dean at a significant time in UW Tacoma’s history. I look forward to partnering with you as we continue to carry forth the School of Education’s dream to: Educate, Empower, Excel.
Respectfully Yours,
