Husky Post Prison Pathways is located at Mattress Factory, Suite 152, at the University of Washington’s Tacoma campus. We are dedicated to supporting formerly incarcerated individuals in their transition from prison to college. We understand that this journey can be complex, which is why we are here to provide comprehensive support tailored to the unique needs of our students.
At Husky Post Prison Pathways, we are committed to helping individuals identify and pursue opportunities for higher education and career advancement. Whether you have already begun your higher education journey while incarcerated or are considering it for the first time, we are here to support you every step of the way.
Here's how we work towards our mission of empowering formerly incarcerated people to achieve their educational and career goals:
Academic Support & Guidance
Our team is here to assist formerly incarcerated students who experience academic difficulty. We provide a listening ear and point our students in the right direction to address any concerns. Our services may involve introducing new tools & strategies or making warm handoffs to other on-campus resources.
Possibilities Exploration
We offer possibilities exploration workshops to incarcerated individuals held at facilities throughout the state of Washington. Our goal is to ensure that prospective students take a strengths-based approach in determining their academic and career goals. We also offer one-on-one possibilities exploration/goal-setting sessions to prospective and current students who are formerly incarcerated.
Narrative Change Work
Another key area of focus for HP3 is disrupting stigma and challenging harmful narratives about formerly incarcerated people. We do this through offering presentations, workshops, and trainings to the entire campus community throughout the year.
Peer Navigation Support
Our student peer-navigators are the first point of contact for the HP3 office. These student employees are trained to answer general inquiries, tap into their lived experience to inform and guide others, and provide information and warm-handoffs for both on and off-campus resources.
Cohort Experience
Our career guidance services help individuals explore their career options, develop professional skills, and access employment opportunities in Pierce and surrounding counties.
Career Fair for Fair Chance Employers
We host a career fair specifically for fair chance employers, providing individuals with the opportunity to connect with companies committed to giving them a fair chance.
Community Building
One of our core purposes is to build community and a sense of belonging amongst formerly incarcerated students at the University of Washington Tacoma. We accomplish this through campus events focused on bringing formerly incarcerated students together in an empowering way while providing opportunities for our students to socialize and get to know their peers and the larger campus community.
At Husky Post Prison Pathways,
we believe in the transformative power of education and opportunity. Join us as we work to create a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone has the chance to thrive.
