Inclusive Excellence
Inclusive Excellence refers to the practice of centering diversity, equity, and inclusion in pedagogy, policies, and procedures to nurture barrier-free learning and working environments where all students and employees from all socio-cultural backgrounds feel empowered to bring their authentic best selves and to realize their academic and professional dreams (Ndura, 2022).This is an Initiative of the Office of Equity and Inclusion in Partnership with Cross-Campus Units.
Purpose
Create campus-wide diversity council that will bring together different areas of DEI work around campus to begin mapping where we have strengths and opportunities, and co-lead the implementation of the Diversity Blueprint 2022-2026 to advance Inclusive Excellence at UW Tacoma.

Process
Identify faculty and staff whose current responsibilities include DEI across academic/administrative units and invite them to serve as Inclusive Excellence Ambassadors. In addition, faculty and staff volunteers with extensive DEI experience may be invited to serve as Inclusive Excellence Ambassadors. Student Organizations will also be invited to delegate representatives to this diversity council.
Expectations of Inclusive Excellence Ambassadors:
- Partner with the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) to support the seamless implementation of UW Diversity Blueprint 2022-2026 to advance UWT’s quest for Inclusive Excellence.
- Co-lead professional development and programming activities designed to address recommendations from the campus climate survey and build a safe and welcoming campus community.
- Participate in professional development designed to enhance their capacities to facilitate courageous conversations around campus climate issues such as race and racism, gender identity, etc.
- Partner with the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) to develop a DEIB Action Plan in alignment with the UW Tacoma strategic Plan.
- Partner with the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) to develop meaningful DEIB metrics to document the progress and impact of campus-wide DEIB activities.
- Partner with the Vice Chancellor for Equity and Inclusion (VCEI) to document and communicate accomplishments to the campus community.
