UW Unveils 2023 Husky 100

Meet the UW Tacoma members of this year's Husky 100: Remarkable undergraduate and graduate students who are making the most of their time at UW Tacoma.

A mix of graduate and undergraduate students from biomedical sciences, psychology, accounting, business administration, criminal justice and education make up this year’s UW Tacoma Husky 100 cohort. 

A total of eight UW Tacoma students are part of this year’s cohort. The tri-campus recognition celebrates students who have made the most of their Husky Experience. Applicants are evaluated on different criteria including how well they take lessons learned in the classroom and apply them elsewhere, whether that’s on-or-off campus. 

Members of the Husky 100 are formally recognized by UW leadership and are connected to networking opportunities with UW students, alumni, faculty staff and community leaders. A total of 57 UW Tacoma students have been named to the Husky 100 since the program launched in 2016.

When students enter my classroom, I will give my best effort to support them in their journeys toward their dreams and the improvement of their communities. Math is more than numbers, it is also a tool that can be used for social justice.

As a Tacoma native, first-generation college student, mother of three, full time student, and employee the University of Washington-Tacoma has served as a catalyst, weaving together a heightened level of self-confidence, resources and connections within my personal and professional life. My education has illuminated the interconnectedness of how I can use my understanding of accounting principles to be a vessel for the community in which I was raised. Striving to make an equitable change by utilizing my understanding of a “power with” leadership mentality to be a pillar and guiding light just as UWT has been for me.

From a young age, I wanted to help others in the community. I am from a marginated community that had minimal resources. I wanted to be a person that could help bridge that gap. During my sophomore year volunteered at a learning center and got a chance to see what families have to endure with little to no help. I started Cars4giving to provide vehicles for low-income families in Thurston County. I also am an advocate for giving people the tools so they can do better. With my UWT degree, I am now a Crisis Case Manager with Family Education and Support Service assisting families in Thurston County.

UW Tacoma has created an environment for me where I can prosper as a leader with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to assist others.

Although some may underestimate retail workers or those who have a gap in their education, the University of Washington Tacoma’s Career Development Center saw something in me, giving me the opportunity to work as a Career Prep Consultant where I could use my passion for helping others in a new way. Assisting students in navigating their career paths and recognizing their potential has been a fulfilling experience that helped me find my own calling and has inspired me to pursue a career in student affairs. This experience taught me the transformative power of believing in and supporting others, inspiring me to do the same, just like the university did for me.
