Global Honors students to present research at colloquium
Seven UW Tacoma seniors will present findings from their travels to locations ranging from south Indian villages and Denmark to East Africa and Japan.
In the past nine months, seven extraordinary UW Tacoma seniors have logged thousands of miles of travel to all corners of the world—an experience that has enriched their learning and prepared them to become leaders.
Their studies this year ranged from humanitarian aid in south Indian villages following the 2004 tsunami to drug policies in Denmark, girls' education in East Africa and global marketing standardization in the United States and Japan. These seven students, UW Tacoma's first graduates of UW Tacoma's Global Honors Program, will present their research at an undergraduate student colloquium Thursday, May 10, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. in Carwein Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
"This colloquium will celebrate the scholarly achievements of this pioneering group of seniors in the Global Honors Program," said Claudia Gorbman, director. "These students have done some amazing work in the very first year of this program, and we are excited to highlight their research as they prepare to graduate."
Global Honors, UW Tacoma's academic honors program, launched in 2005. Open to high-achieving students in all academic fields, the program offers a challenging series of seminars aimed at providing students with a sophisticated understanding of history, cultures, arts and world problems in a global context. Global Honors students are required to participate in a study-abroad experience as part of the program.
UW Tacoma Chancellor Patricia Spakes will speak at this event. For more information about Global Honors or the May 10 research colloquium, contact the Global Honors program at (253) 692-4770. You can track students' journeys via the Global Honors weblog.
